Vietnam to play friendlies against Germany, NZ ahead of Women’s World Cup

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national women’s football team are scheduled to play friendlies against both Germany and New Zealand during their training camp in Europe ahead of the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, according to Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

The first warmup game will see Vietnam face off against the German national women’s team in a friendly match played on June 24 at Bieberer Berg Stadium in Offenbach.

Currently, Germany is placed second in the FIFA rankings, just behind the United States. They have a rich history in the women’s game having won two Women's World Cup titles and eight European Championship titles.

It is expected to be a fierce contest for the Vietnamese women's team as they look to thoroughly prepare for the World Cup.

Vietnam will also have another friendly match against New Zealand on July 10 before officially starting their campaign at the Women's World Cup Finals on July 20.

The 2023 tournament will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, with this version of the competition marking the first time that the FIFA Women's World Cup will have two host nations and 32 teams competing for the trophy instead of 24 as was previously the case.

Most notably, this is the first time that Vietnam have progressed to the finals of the prestigious international tournament.

In Group E, Vietnam will take on defending champions the US on July 22, Portugal on July 27, and the Netherlands on August 1.
