Vietnam to host World Championship Showdance Latin for first time
VOV.VN - Vietnam will host the World Championship Showdance Latin for the first time after being awarded the hosting rights by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF).
Slated for December 19 - 20, the tournament is expected to open up opportunities for Vietnamese dancesport athletes to compete on home soil, while also marking a new milestone for the country to host major international tournaments.
Alongside the world championship, Vietnam will also host the Asian Senior II Latin Championship.
The WDSF’s decision to award Vietnam the hosting rights for the World Championship Showdance Latin in 2026 is seen as recognition of the country’s growing organisational capacity in DanceSport. At the same time, it sets higher requirements for professional standards and event operations.
Hosting a world championship requires the host country to meet a wide range of requirements, including competition venues, judging systems, hotels, transportation, security, medical services, technical facilities, prize money and arrangements for participating delegations.
A series of international tournaments including WDSF Asian DanceSport Championships were organised in Vietnam in July 2026, which attracted many participating nations and thousands of athletes.
This year’s tournament will welcome representatives from 20 to 30 countries, alongside a large number of athletes, coaches, referees, and members of the international dancesport community. The Vietnamese team will field a strong squad across the Latin, Standard, Showdance, Senior, and Solo categories.
Beyond its sporting significance, the championship is expected to help promote Vietnam’s culture, people and image to international participants.
