Vietnam to host 2026 U17 and U23 Asian Wrestling Championships

VOV.VN - Vietnam has been officially selected by the Asian Wrestling Federation to host the 2026 U17 and U23 Asian Wrestling Championships, marking the second time the country will stage the continental youth event.

The championships are scheduled to take place in Da Nang from May 23 to 31. Vietnam first hosted the tournament last year in Ho Chi Minh City. Following that event, the Asian Wrestling Federation praised the host country’s organisation and facilities supporting young athletes.

At the 2025 edition, Vietnam secured one silver medal in the U23 women’s 53kg category and three bronze medals in the U17 women’s 43kg and 65kg divisions, as well as the U23 men’s 77kg Greco-Roman category. The tournament attracted 16 teams from across Asia.

The 2026 championships are expected to serve as a platform for identifying young wrestlers who could represent Vietnam at future international competitions, including the 2026 U17 World Wrestling Championships in Azerbaijan in July and the 2026 U23 World Wrestling Championships in the US in October.
