Vietnam to downsize delegation to SEA Games 32

VOV.VN - The Sports Administration of Vietnam is considering reducing the number of delegate members to the upcoming SEA Games 32 in Cambodia by 20% due to financial problems.

Vietnam originally planned to send 1,081 members, including 744 athletes together with coaches, doctors, and experts to Cambodia this May. But financial difficulties forced to the Sports Administration to downsize the delegation to approximately 900 members, including athletes, coaches and medical teams.

The Sports Administration will submit the official list of delegates to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the list will be announced as soon as it is approved by the ministry.

According to the Sports Administration, many Vietnamese athletes will not have the opportunity to compete at the 32nd SEA Games as host nation Cambodia has decided to cut many sport events and competitions. Meanwhile, Cambodia has also added several new sports which are not strengths of the Vietnamese team.

A ceremony to see off the Vietnamese sports delegation is scheduled to be held on April 19 in Hanoi. Vietnam aims to enter the top three in the overall medal tally.
