VOV.VN - The Vietnamese tennis team will depart Ho Chi Minh City on September 8 for Amman in Jordan to participate in the 2021 Davis Cup Group III in the Asia/Oceania region.
Ranked 71st in the world, the Vietnamese team are scheduled to play Hong Kong, Syria, Sri Lanka Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Pacific Oceania, and Malaysia.
The 2021 Davis Cup - Asia/Oceania Group III is due to take place from September 14 to September 18 at the Al-Hussein Youth Sport Stadium in a round table format, with the drawing ceremony expected to be held at the Amman Marriott Hotel on September 14.
The draw will see teams drawn into pools A, B, and C in the initial stage, with each pool consisting of three teams and matches taking place from September 15 to September 17.
Play-off matches will subsequently be held on September 18. At the end of the event there will be a maximum of three teams with the highest results promoted to Group II, whilst the three losing teams will be relegated to Group IV. The other teams will therefore remain in Group III.
Based on the world rankings, Vietnam are likely to be a number two seed.
The nation has been in Group III since 2003. After topping it in 2018, they failed to get promotion to World Group II after losing 4-0 to Morocco in the play-offs last March.
