Vietnam rowing team faces sudden challenge at 2026 Asian Games
VOV.VN - Vietnam's rowing team faces unexpected disadvantages as the competition schedule for the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD 2026) has been compressed from five days into two.
Due to storms and heavy rain, the organizing committee of ASIAD 2026 decided to adjust the rowing schedule, cutting the originally planned five-day event down to just two days. Although participating delegations failed to reach a consensus, the schedule was modified for safety reasons.
This is the first time in ASIAD history that the rowing schedule has been altered due to natural disasters, shrinking by over 65% compared to the duration stipulated in the charter. This change significantly impacts participating countries, including Vietnam's rowing team.
With the schedule compressed to two days, Vietnam's rowing team faces major challenges in its quest for medals. Athletes must rapidly adapt to the new schedule under unpredictable weather conditions. Another disadvantage is that the shortened timeline alters the competition format, leaving the Vietnamese team without substitute athletes.
According to the latest updated schedule, the rowing events will take place intensively on September 23 and 24. Preliminary rounds will be held on Sept. 23, followed by the finals on Sept. 24.
Despite the unforeseen hurdles, Vietnam's rowing team is striving to adapt physically, tactically, and strategically to compete for medals at the Games.
