Women's national football team faces tough group stage at ASIAD 2026
VOV.VN - The Vietnam women's national football team faces a major test in the group stage of the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD 2026), where they will encounter powerful continental opponents.
The squad is actively preparing for ASIAD 2026 with a training session in China from September 2 to 11. Alongside training sessions, Vietnam is scheduled to play several practice matches there before entering the tournament.
In the group stage, Vietnam has been drawn alongside formidable opponents, including host nation Japan, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand. According to the match schedule, Vietnam will face Chinese Taipei on September 14, host nation Japan on September 17, and Thailand on September 21. To reach the quarter-finals, Vietnam must finish first or second in the group. If finishing third, the team must rank among the two best third-placed teams to advance.
This represents a great challenge, as Japan is one of the continent's top teams. Meanwhile, Thailand is a familiar arch-rival for Vietnam in both regional and Asian competitions.
