Vietnam rise in latest FIFA rankings following victory over Malaysia
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national men’s football team have climbed two notches to reach 90th in the world thanks to their recent 2-1 victory over Malaysia, according to the latest rankings released by football’s global governing body FIFA.
Vietnam gained an additional 13.4 points after recording two wins in their matches against Indonesia and Malaysia in the second qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup to reach 1,271 points in total, thereby moving up two places from the previous rankings.
Elsewhere, Thailand fell seven notches to 113rd position after being held to a draw with Indonesia and suffering a defeat at the hands of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Malaysia also dropped to 158th place, while Indonesia fell to 175th position.
Vietnam continue to top Group G with 17 points and are due to take on their hosts UAE in the final game of the group.
The national team need only to draw in their crucial fixture against the UAE in order to secure a place in the final World Cup qualifying round for the first time in their history.
