Vietnam puts forward 11 sports for ASEAN Para Games 2021
VOV.VN - The Vietnam ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee (VIEAPGOC) has proposed a total of 11 sports to be played at the 11th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 11) which is scheduled to be held in Hanoi from Dec. 17 to Dec. 23, 2021.
The suggestion was made during the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) Executive Committee meeting which was held virtually from their headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 27.
The 11 sports put forward include athletics, badminton, swimming, table tennis, chess, powerlifting, boccia, judo, goalball, wheelchair tennis, and archery.
In addition to the Vietnamese proposal, the APSF Executive Committee will also consider ideas and concepts from other ASEAN member states during the meeting, which is scheduled to take place in mid-January, 2021.
The ASEAN Para Games will be held immediately after the conclusion of the 31st Southeast Asian Games on December 2, 2021.
Among the venues proposed to host some of the competition’s events are My Dinh National Stadium, My Dinh Aquatics Centre, Cau Giay Gymnasium, Bac Tu Liem Gymnasium, the Culture House – Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Centre, Hanoi Athletic Palace, and Hanoi National Sports Training Centre.
Vietnam will be hosting the biennial games for the second time in its history, with the previous occasion taking place in 2003 when the event only featured five sports.
Previously, the APSF had endorsed the cancellation of the 2020 ASEAN Para Games which was originally scheduled to be held in October in the Philippines, but was called off due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
