Vietnam put in Pot 1 at AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese futsal team have been placed in Pot 1 and will likely avoid any strong rivals during the qualifiers for the 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, a tournament which will also serve as the qualifiers for the upcoming 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
The seeding ahead of the draw was recently announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), with 31 teams ranked based on their performance in the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
Vietnam have been placed in Pot 1 alongside Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Tajikistan, Indonesia, and Kuwait. As a result, the team coached by Diego Giustozzi won’t be drawn in the same group as some of the region’s strongest teams in the qualifying round for the 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, Lebannon, the Republic of Korea, and Myanmar are in Pot 2.
Pot 3 sees the presence of Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Australia, Palestine, Hong Kong (China), and Timor Leste.
The remaining teams - Cambodia, Maldives, Mongolia, China, Brunei, India, and Macau (China) - are listed in Pot 4.
A total of 31 Asian futsal teams will be divided into eight groups. Bahrain, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan, will be the host countries of the 2024 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers.
A draw is scheduled to take place at the AFC’s headquarters in Malaysia on June 22, and the qualifying matches are scheduled to take place on October 7, October 9, and October 11 this year.
The participating teams will compete in a round-robin format. The best eight group winners and seven second-placed teams will progress through to the final round, which will also serve as the qualifying round of the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Argentinian coach Diego Giustozzi announced the final squad on May 30 made up of 16 Vietnamese footballers ahead of their training camp in South America this June.
Their training camp will start in Paraguay, where the team will have three friendlies against the Paraguayan team on June 4, June 6, and June 8. In Argentina, they will play against the Argentine team on June 10, June 12, and June 14.
