Vietnam overwhelm Cambodia in 2022 AFF Women’s Championship opener
VOV.VN - Vietnam on July 7 trounced Cambodia 3-0 in their opening game of the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship which is taking place in the Philippines.
Taking on underdogs Cambodia, coach Mai Duc Chung decided to use many reserve players in the starting lineup, and that was still enough for the red shirt team to completely control the game.
Van Su opened the score in the 19th minute before striker Hai Yen extended Vietnam’s lead from a penalty shot 12 minutes later and Thanh Nha added another goal in the extra time.
After the interval, Cambodian players made efforts to produce some attacks, but they could not break Vietnam’s defence line.
Although there was not a strong victory, coach Mai Duc Chung was still satisfied with the result. He also praised Cambodian women for their good performance, noting they had progressed very quickly from the 31st SEA Games in May.
Vietnam temporarily ranked third in Group B with 3 points, 1 point behind Laos who played one more game.
Vietnam will play Laos in the following game at 19:00 on July 9 (local time).
