Vietnam makes surprise at Sepak Takraw World Championship in Thailand
VOV.VN - Vietnamese women on July 27 defeated their Thai opponents 2-0 in a final match winning a gold medal at the 35th Sepak Takraw World Championship 2022 known as King’s Cup which is getting underway in Thailand.
Vietnamese girls successfully beat Malaysia, Cambodia, Pakistan, and the Republic of Korea to cruise into the final match of the competition.
Facing hosts Thailand, who are the number one in Southeast Asia, Vietnamese girls entered the game with great determination, trouncing their opponents in the first set with a score of 21-15.
The second set saw Thailand make a mistake which ultimately led to a 23-21 win for the Vietnamese side.
The result of the match immediately grabbed local headlines, and some major Thai media outlets described the Vietnamese victory as convincing.
The Sepak Takraw World Championship 2022 is taking place in Thailand from July 24 – 31, attracting the participation of 23 International Sepak takraw Federation (ISTAF) member countries, with the majority coming from Asia and Oceania.
