Vietnam holds ground in top 100 despite unsuccessful ASEAN Cup run
VOV.VN - Vietnam retained 99th place in the latest FIFA rankings despite a 6.33-point deduction after failing to secure success at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
Kim Sang Sik's side endured a disappointing tournament, finishing fourth overall. During the group stage, Vietnam defeated the Philippines 1-0, lost 2-0 to Thailand, and overcame Pakistan 4-2, before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Malaysia in the third-place playoff.
The underwhelming results cost Vietnam 6.33 points in the FIFA rankings update following the October international window. Nevertheless, the team maintained its 99th position globally with 1,231.29 points amid shifting standings worldwide.
Staying inside the top 100 provides a vital mental boost for Vietnam ahead of the November FIFA window, scheduled for November 9-17. During this gathering, the national team is lined up to play friendlies against Chinese Taipei and Kyrgyzstan.
Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, Thailand climbed one spot to 93rd despite shedding 0.83 points after finishing as runners-up. Indonesia gained 3.35 points and moved up two places to 116th following their tournament victory, while Malaysia collected 6.33 points to jump three spots to 133rd.
At the summit of the global rankings, Spain, Argentina, France, and England maintained the top four positions. Portugal climbed to fifth, dropping Brazil to sixth and Morocco to seventh. Belgium, the Netherlands, and Mexico rounded out the top ten.
