Vietnam Football Federation elects new president
VOV.VN - Tran Quoc Tuan, acting president of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) was elected president of the national football governing body at its nine congress held in Hanoi on November 6.
Tuan is the only candidate in the race for the hot seat, and his vast experience and reputation won support of 100 delegates taking part in the convention.
He was elected vice president at the 8th VFF congress in 2018 and acting president in 2020 after the then president Le Khanh Hai quit working following his appointment as chairman of the State President’s Office.
Currently Tuan is head of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Competition Committee.
The first half of the previous tenure (2018-2022) was considered the most successful period in Vietnamese football history when the U20 men’s team, women’s team, and futsal team all won tickets to the World Cup.
During the period, the men’s team won the AFF Cup, entered the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup and advanced to the third and final qualifying round of the World Cup. The U23 team also finished runners-up in Asia, not to mention their impressive results at SEA Games.
The congress also elected Tran Anh Tu, chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF), and Nguyen Trung Kien, Next Media’s General Manager, as vice presidents of VFF.
