Vietnam enjoy first victory at Hong Kong U18 tournament

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese U18 football team defeated their Singaporean rivals 1-0 in their opening game of the U18 tournament which got underway in Hong Kong (China) on April 19.

Head coach Hoang Anh Tuan set his team up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and encouraged his players to play a strong pressing game.
Immediately from the kick off Vietnam started to dominate the game. With the Vietnamese team enjoying most of the possession, the footballers from Singapore were forced onto the defensive and struggled to break out of their own half.
With a packed defence, the Vietnamese footballers struggled to break down the opposition and score. Eventually a mistake in midfield by Singapore allowed striker Pham Xuan Tao to move into the penalty area before being fouled and winning a penalty kick.
Bui Tien Sinh stepped up to score the only one goal of the game in the 89th minute from the penalty spot.
Vietnam’s next fixtures will be against Myanmar on April 20 and then against the hosts, Hong Kong on April 22. The Hong Kong tournament is one of the squad’s warm-up activities for the upcoming 2019 AFF U18 Championship and the 2020 AFC U19 Championship qualifiers which will take place later this year.
