Vietnam drop six spots in FIVB world rankings following championship losses

VOV.VN - Vietnam have dropped six places to 28th position in the latest world rankings, following their three consecutive losses at the 2025 FIVB Women's World Championship in Thailand.

The team coached by Nguyen Tuan Kiet lost a total of 19.04 ranking points, with the most significant drop coming after a 1–3 defeat to Kenya on August 27, costing them 12.77 points. This was particularly damaging as Kenya were ranked five places lower than Vietnam before the match.

Earlier, Vietnam had a promising start against world No. 3 Poland, managing to take one set and only losing 0.01 points due to the large gap in rankings. However, a straight-set loss (0–3) to world No. 12 Germany in their second match resulted in a further 6.26-point deduction.

The total ranking points lost at this tournament exceeded the points gained from winning the recent 2025 SEA V.League, highlighting the need for Vietnam to secure victories over higher-ranked opponents to climb back up the standings.

Despite the disappointing results, this was Vietnam's first-ever appearance at a World championship, offering valuable experience. Competing against top-tier teams allowed the team to learn from modern playing styles, an important step toward closing the gap with Asia’s and the world’s volleyball elite.

After returning from Thailand, the team will take a short break before resuming training in October to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games this December.
