Vietnam drop out of Asia’s Top 15 for first time in two years
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national men’s football team has fallen out of the Top 15 in the Asian region following their recent defeats in the final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
According to statistics compiled by global football website Footy Rankings, the nation team led by head coach Park Hang-seo dropped 21.17 points after two losing matches against China and Oman, thereby falling three places to 98th in the world’s rankings.
The latest results also caused the country to fall to 17th place in the Asian rankings as Lebanon and the Kyrgyzstan showed strong development in recent performances.
This therefore marks the first time in two years that the Vietnamese national team has been outside of Asia’s Top 15. Under the guideline of head coach Park, the team have been one of the leading 15 Asian teams since October, 2019.
In terms of the Southeast Asian region the team maintained their leading top position, with Thailand ranked second and placed 117th in the world’s rankings, followed by the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The country has fallen six places from 92nd to 98th in the latest global rankings after their four loses in the final round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Their upcoming fixtures against Japan and Saudi Arabia in November as part of the qualifiers will continue to have a direct influence on their position in the global rankings.
