Vietnam drop one place in latest FIFA rankings

VOV.VN - Vietnam slipped one spot to 108th in the latest FIFA men’s rankings released on January 20, according to the world’s football governing body.

The drop was largely due to FIFA’s ranking calculation, as several teams gained points during the period while Vietnam did not play any international matches. The national team’s most recent match was a win over Laos in November 2025 in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam finished second, behind Thailand, who were ranked 96th globally. Malaysia (121st), Indonesia (122nd) and the Philippines (136th) followed, with no changes among Malaysia and Indonesia.

In Asia, Vietnam were ranked 19th, just behind Kyrgyzstan. Japan continued to lead the continent, followed by Iran (20th), the Republic of Korea (22nd), Australia (27th), and Uzbekistan (52nd).

Globally, the top seven positions remained unchanged, led by Spain, Argentina and France. Morocco climbed to eighth after reaching the Coupe d' Afrique des Nations (CAN Cup) final, while Senegal rose seven places to 12th after winning the tournament. Nigeria and Cameroon recorded the biggest gains, each climbing 12 places.

Vietnam are set to regroup in March ahead of a key Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Malaysia, a match expected to have a direct impact on their FIFA ranking. The next FIFA rankings are due to be released on April 1.
