Vietnam drawn with Malaysia and Indonesia in 2020 AFF Cup
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national football has been in placed Group B alongside Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos for the upcoming 2020 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup, which is set to take place from December 5 to January 1, 2022.
This comes following the draw held in Singapore on September 21 in an online format.
However, the host country of the competition has yet to be announced.
Elsewhere in the draw for the tournament, one group consists of Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and the winner of the match between Timor Leste and Brunei that will take place on December 1.
The format of the competition will see the teams divided into two groups and play in a round-robin format, with the two best teams in each group advancing to the semi-finals.
In recent years, Vietnam boast an undefeated record against their rivals in the group stage of the competition.
Back at the 2018 AFF Cup, Vietnam recorded victories over Laos, 3-0, Cambodia, 3-0, and Malaysia, 2-0, in the group stage.
Vietnam also held Malaysia to a draw in an away match in the final round of the tournament before beating them 1-0 in a home match.
During the second qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam beat Malaysia 1-0 and 2-1, while also defeating Indonesia 3-1 and 4-0.
