Vietnam crush Brunei 14-0 at Southeast Asia Futsal Championship

VOV.VN - Vietnam clinched a convincing victory against underdogs Brunei in Thailand on November 5, opening the door wide for them to advance to the 2024 Southeast Asia Futsal Championship semi-finals.

The 2-0 victory against Malaysia a day earlier gave coach Diego Giustozzi and his players a significant boost in confidence. They need one more win to secure their place in the next round.

As the whistle blew to start the match, the Vietnamese futsal team surged into their opponents’ half, launching continuous attacks. Their efforts quickly paid off as they took the lead.

In the second minute, Tran Thai Huy scored accurately from close range, putting Vietnam ahead. Riding the wave of momentum, Thai Huy doubled the lead less than a minute later. The Brunei goalkeeper was unable to fend off the powerful shots from this player.

The Vietnamese men carved out at least four scoring chances but failed in the end. It wasn’t until the 11th minute that Doan Phat made it 3-0, with Thai Huy once again making his mark with a great assist.

The Brunei team fought hard in the first half. They couldn’t push forward effectively but made efforts to defend tightly and avoided conceding any more goals before the break.

After the break, the Vietnamese team once again increased the pace of the game, leaving Brunei unable to keep up with Duc Hoa and his teammates. In the first three minutes, Nhat Trung and Manh Dung scored consecutively, bringing the score to 5-0. In the 26th minute, captain Pham Duc Hoa unleashed a powerful shot that made it 6-0.

The large score difference demoralized Brunei, and their dwindling stamina caused them to gradually lose control in their half.

In just the last 12 minutes of the match, the Vietnamese futsal team scored an additional 8 goals, including a hat-trick by Huynh Mi Woen, who also executed a stunning direct free kick. Young players like Ngoc Anh and Da Hải also got their names on the scoreboard.

The convincing 14-0 victory sent Vietnam to the knockout stage, as Thailand, in another Group A match on the same day, defeated Malaysia 3-1, also earning their spot in the semifinals.

After three group matches, both Vietnam and Thailand earned 9 points each, but hosts Thailand temporarily ranked first on goal difference. The match between the two teams on November 6 will determine the top spot in Group A and decide whether they will face Indonesia or Australia in the semifinals.
