Vietnam concede second defeat at 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

VOV.VN - Vietnam continued to suffer another loss at the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup when they were beaten 0-2 by Portugal in their second Group E match on July 27.

Portuguese girls proved bravery in their first World Cup campaign by scoring two goals in the first half. Encarnacao put Portugal ahead on seven minutes before Kika extended her tam’s lead 15 minutes later.

Portuguese girls in their good physical form continuously posed threats to goalkeeper Kim Thanh, but no more goals were scored till the end of the match.

Coach Mai Duc Chung sent in Hai Yen and Chuong Thi Kieu to substitute captain Huynh Nhu and Thu Thuong, but despite the effort Vietnamese could not earn a goal.

This is Vietnam’s second loss following their 0-3 defeat to the USA in the first Group E match.

After the second loss, Vietnam lost their chance to cruise into the knock-out stage. They will play the Netherlands in their last group match on August 1.

In another Group E match on the same day, the Netherlands were held to a 1-1 draw with the USA.

2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is getting underway in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20. This is the first time the World Cup has been held in the Oceania and also the first time it has been held in both countries.
