Vietnam climbs to 95th in latest FIFA rankings

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese men’s national football team have risen one position from 96th to 95th place in the world according to the most recent global rankings released by football’s governing body FIFA.

The latest changes to the world rankings can largely be attributed to the results of matches played during recent FIFA Days.

Other changes witnessed Thailand drop three notches to 114th place due to their failure in fixtures against the UAE and Syria.

Meanwhile, Malaysia rose seven places to rank 138th in the world thanks to their victories over Hong Kong (China) and Turkmenistan. Indonesia also climbed two spots to reach 149th position thanks to one draw and one win against Burundi.

Moving forward, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will decide to seed teams based on the football teams’ latest positions in the FIFA men’s world rankings.

Vietnam currently rank at 95th in the world and 16th in Asia, meaning they will be in Pot 3 along with Bahrain, Syria, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, and Lebanon.

Elsewhere, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia will be placed in Pot 4 along with India, Tajikistan, and Hong Kong (China).

The draw for Asian Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place on May 11 in Qatar, with the tournament being held on January 12, 2024.
