With this win, Vietnam are second in the group with six points, behind the hosts Indonesia who also have six points.
However, Vietnamese coach Vu Hong Viet wasn’t satisfied with his players because they missed many chances.
“This is the meaningful win for the team although they didn’t perform well. We hoped to score more goals,” said Viet.
Vietnam will next face Indonesia on August 2.
“The match with Indonesia will be rather difficult. They have good skills and will have the support of home fans, however, we will try our best to beat them,” said Viet.
Vietnam are in Group A alongside Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines. Following the match with the hosts, Vietnam will meet the Philippines on August 4 and Myanmar on August 6.
The AFF tournament will be a warm-up for Vietnam to prepare for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship to be held in Malaysia in September.
