Head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi’s side took control from the outset and opened the scoring just two minutes into the match through Cong Hau.

The goal came after Duc Vu produced a skilful run from midfield before threading a precise through ball behind the Timor-Leste defence. Cong Hau raced onto the pass and calmly finished past goalkeeper Oliveira to give Vietnam an early lead.

Despite falling behind, Timor-Leste showed resilience and remained a threat on the counterattack, particularly down the right flank. Captain Vabio Cannavaro repeatedly tested the Vietnamese defence with his dribbling ability and direct running, creating several dangerous situations.

Vietnam, however, continued to dominate possession and create chances. Cong Hau continued to shine in attack and came close to doubling the lead in the 35th minute, only to see his effort strike the post after a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. The first half ended with Vietnam holding a 1-0 advantage.

Vietnam tightened their grip on the match after the break and sustained pressure on the Timor-Leste goal. Cong Hau capped an outstanding performance by completing his hat-trick with goals in the 83rd minute and second-half stoppage time (90+1).

His three goals secured a comfortable 3-0 victory for Vietnam in their opening match of the tournament.

The result gives Ikeuchi’s side their first three points and temporarily sends them to the top of Group A ahead of the later match between Indonesia U19 and Myanmar U19.
