Vietnam beat Thailand 3-1 to take bronze at ASEAN Women’s Championship

Vietnam claimed the bronze medal at the 2025 ASEAN Women’s Championship after defeating Thailand 3-1 in the third-place match at Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong city on August 19 afternoon.

The match opened with high intensity as both sides pushed forward. Thailand threatened early, with Pichayatida forcing Vietnamese goalkeeper Kim Thanh into a save in just the second minute. Vietnam responded with steady pressure and finally broke through at the end of the first half, when Hai Yen finished to make it 1-0 in the 45th minute.

After the break, Vietnam took control. Captain Huynh Nhu doubled the advantage in the 65th minute, pouncing on a rebound inside the box. Only three minutes later, Bich Thuy extended the lead to 3-0 with a powerful strike from Nguyen Thi Van’s pass.

Thailand fought back late and pulled one back in the 87th minute through Wirunya Kwenkasikum after a corner, but Vietnam held firm to secure the win.

The result capped a strong campaign for coach Mai Duc Chung’s squad, who once again proved their dominance over their regional rivals and closed the tournament with a well-deserved bronze medal on home turf.
