Vietnam beat Kazakhstan at Asian volleyball event

Vietnam defeated Kazakhstan 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 20-25, 15-5 in the fifth-eighth place match at the SMM 19th Asian Women’s Senior Volleyball Championship held in the Philippines on August 16.

Vietnam played very confidently, with Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, Ha Ngoc Diem and Bui Thi Nga all shining.

The Vietnamese already looked poised to sweep the Kazakhs after taking the first two frames until they sputtered midway through the match as Yekaterina Zhdanova and Alessya Safronova pushed forward and propelled the game to a deciding fifth set.

In the decider, however, Vietnam recovered and never looked back to the satisfaction of their head coach Hidehiro Irisawa, who was cheering the team from the sidelines, from start to finish.

Vietnam will face the winners of the match between the Philippines and Chinese Taipei in the fifth-seventh playoff today.

Earlier, in the qualifying round, Vietnam lost to Kazakhstan 25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 20-25.
