Vietnam baseball team out of medal contention at SEA Games 33

VOV.VN - Men’s baseball team of Vietnam has been eliminated from medal contention at SEA Games 33 following a 12-19 defeat to Singapore in a decisive match on December 8.

The match was do-or-die, with Vietnam needing a win to remain in the top four and qualify for the medal round. Despite their efforts, the team failed to overcome an opponent superior in all aspects of the game.

Earlier in the tournament, Vietnam showed signs of struggle. On December 7, they suffered a 0-16 loss to Laos, exposing weaknesses in pitching, fielding, and hitting. After three games, including a 5-2 win over Malaysia but 0-16 losses to Thailand and Laos, Vietnam fell to the bottom of the group and had to defeat Singapore to keep their medal hopes alive.

In the crucial match against Singapore, Vietnam scored 12 points but conceded 19, confirming their drop to the last position. This result officially ends Vietnam’s chance to compete in the top four and vie for medals at this SEA Games. Baseball is the first sport in which Vietnam will not compete for a medal in this edition of the Games.

After four matches, Vietnam scored a total of 18 points while conceding 56, highlighting the significant gap with stronger regional teams and signaling areas for improvement.

Although two group-stage matches remain, the team will continue to play to gain experience and focus on improving their skills for future competitions.
