Vietnam advance to AFC U20 Asian Cup finals

VOV.VN - Despite their 2-3 loss to Indonesia in a Group F match on September 18, Vietnam, as one of best five runners-up from the group stage, advanced to the final round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U20 Asian Cup which will be hosted by Uzbekistan from March 1 to March 18 in 2023.

The other four runners-up who have progressed through to the finals of the AFC U20 Asian Cup are Kyrgyzstan, China, Syria, and Thailand.

In the qualifying round Vietnam were placed in Group F where they defeated Hong Kong 5-1 in their opening match on September 14 before thrashing Timor Leste 4-0 two days later.

The Vietnamese players then lost 3-2 to hosts Indonesia on September 18 in their final match of the group stage.

The 2023 AFC U20 Asian Cup will be the 41st edition of the annual tournament, which was cancelled in 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saudi Arabia are the title holders of the 2018 tournament.

A total of 16 teams will compete in the finals of the 2023 AFC U20 Asian Cup. The top four teams of the competition will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia as the Asian representatives alongside Indonesia who automatically qualify as hosts.
