Vietnam 1-1 Jordan in friendly ahead of World Cup qualifiers

VOV.VN - Vietnam were held to a 1-1 draw by Jordan in a friendly match on May 31 ahead of their crucial 2022 World Cup qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates.

Jordan opened the scoring in the 11th minute into the game after a quick counter-attack. Vietnam came back with counterattacks, but they earned an equalizer following a Jordan player’s own goal in the first half.

Without No1 goalie Nguyen Van Lam in the line-up, coach Park Hang-seo subsequently sent in three substitutes Bui Tan Truong, Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Van Hoang to hone in skills.

It was Nguyen Van Toan who dashed Jordan chance to extend the score by successfully repelling a penalty kick in the 60th minute, following a Vietnamese player’s hand ball in the penalty area.

The friendly game is Park’s final test before Vietnam play important three matches in Group G of the Asian region’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Vietnam, now topping Group G with 11 points, are scheduled to take on Indonesia on June 7, Malaysia on June 11 and hosts UAE on June 15.

The team are required to earn at least seven points in the three games to cruise into the final qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup.
