The Vietnam Football Federation is keen on hiring Japanese expert Yusuke Adachi (L) to the position of technical director of the Vietnamese men’s national football team.

The VFF is currently planning to offer the Japanese elite development coach a five-year contract, with the salary expected to be worth up to US$20,000 per month.

Adachi is a familiar face to those at the heart of Vietnamese football after being the teacher during a 2017 training course organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in Vietnam.

Indeed, plenty of exceptional former Vietnamese footballers such as Le Huynh Duc, Nguyen Huu Thang, Hoang Anh Tuan, Nguyen Van Sy, and Lu Dinh Tuan have studied the art of coaching from Adachi.

Le Hoai Anh, general secretary of the VFF, stated that both sides are currently in negotiations regarding a contract, although there remains some issues to iron out before anything is ready to be signed.

If hired, it will be Adachi’s responsibility to raise the quality of talent coming through the nation’s youth teams whilst simultaneously raising the standard of young coaches to meet FIFA and AFC standards.

The vacancy comes after the VFF made the decision not to extend the contract of technical director Jurgen Gede after four years in the role.

Gede had originally become the VFF’s technical director in June 2016 with his main focus being on youth football across the country. He proved his ability by assisting U20 coach Hoang Anh Tuan help the team make history by qualifying for the U20 World Cup in 2017.
