VFF extends contract with Kim Sang Sik’s assistant coach
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation has extended the contract of goalkeeping coach Lee Woon Jae, an assistant to head coach Kim Sang Sik for the Vietnam national team and U23 Vietnam.
A contract extension ceremony was held at the VFF headquarters on the morning of April 6.
The new deal runs until 2027, confirming the federation’s trust in the South Korean coach, who is responsible for goalkeeping training for the Vietnam national team and U23 Vietnam.
Speaking on behalf of VFF, General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu acknowledged Lee’s contributions to the teams’ results over the past year.
These include the ASEAN Cup 2024 title, qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup finals, a gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games and a bronze medal at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup. With his support, Vietnam’s goalkeepers have performed well, with younger players gaining experience and progressing.
Nguyen Van Phu expressed confidence that Lee Woon Jae will continue to contribute to the teams’ preparations for upcoming tasks. Vietnam will have two major tournaments this year, including the ASEAN Cup and the Asian Games.
Lee thanked VFF for its trust and said he would continue to work hand in hand with Kim Sang Sik to achieve the set targets. Lee Woon Jae, born in 1973, is a former goalkeeper of the South Korean national team. He played alongside Kim Sang Sik between 2000 and 2007 and appeared at four FIFA World Cups (1994, 2002, 2006 and 2010), with a fourth-place finish in 2002 as a notable achievement.
At club level, he won four K-League titles and one AFC Champions League title.
Lee joined Vietnamese football in late 2024. Following the ASEAN Cup 2024 title, he signed a contract with VFF and has worked with Kim Sang Sik since.
