UEFA, AFC partner with VFF to launch grassroots girls' football project
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) launched a football program for girls aged 6 to 9 on October 15, as part of a women's football development project supported by Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the 2024-2027 period.
The program, initiated in 2024, is designed to give young girls early exposure to football. In its second year, VFF introduced a dedicated football guidebook for young girls to make the sport accessible and build a foundation for female player development from an early age.
Tailored for children aged 6 to 9, the guidebook focuses on ball familiarity, basic skill development, and teamwork. Using an engaging approach, the program allows girls to experience football in a fun, safe environment that encourages self-expression.
The partnership with UEFA and AFC supports the rollout of the "Magic Moves" program, delivering practical value to grassroots football in Vietnam.
Emily Shaw, UEFA Head of Executive Office and International Relations, highlighted the value of dedicated programs for young girls in encouraging sports participation. She said UEFA is proud to support Vietnamese football in creating a positive environment for young girls to enjoy the sport.
In a message to the event, AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John emphasized the role of grassroots football in long-term development. Building a foundation at a young age elevates the quality of women's football and inspires more girls to play, he noted.
VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu affirmed the federation's commitment to supporting girls' football through activities suited to their physical and psychological development.
For the 6-9 age group, the immediate goal centers on building interest, positive experiences, and basic skills rather than competitive results. VFF is set to use football as a platform for girls to connect, build confidence, and discover new abilities.
Through initial training sessions, participants develop motor skills, coordination, and teamwork. A friendly environment helps sustain their interest in football, laying the groundwork for future development.
The program serves as a starting point to expand football opportunities for girls and build a talent pool for the future. Coordination among VFF, UEFA, AFC, local clubs, and schools will play a vital role in maintaining and expanding the program.
