The annual event, organised by the Asian Chess Federation, has attracted nearly 400 amateur players from various countries and territories across the region. Participants are divided into three rating categories (under 2300, 2000, and 1700 Elo) and compete in three formats - standard, rapid, and blitz chess.
Of the two Vietnamese players, Vo Hoang Quan is competing in the standard chess U2000 category, aiming to achieve strong results and earn a FIDE Candidate Master title toward becoming a professional player.
Quan made his mark at the 9th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships organized in Zhuhai, China with many impressive achievements in the U18 age group - the 4th place in rapid chess, the 9th place in standard chess, a silver medal in rapid chess team, a bronze medal in standard chess and blitz chess team. The young player is expected to be a prominent factor of the Vietnamese delegation at this year's tournament.
According to coach Ton That Nhu Tung, head of the Vietnamese delegation, the tournament offers a valuable chance for Vietnamese players to sharpen their skills, gain international exposure, and test new strategies in a competitive environment.
Vietnamese arbiter Le Thi Kim Khanh is also officiating at the event, expressing hope that the players will perform their best and achieve positive results.
The Asian Amateur Chess Championship not only offers a competitive platform but also a pathway for players to improve their Elo ratings and pursue official FIDE titles, paving the way for a professional chess career.
