Two Vietnamese athletes among stars to watch out for at SEA Games 32
VOV.VN - French website AFP Sport has named several star athletes hoping to light up the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) hosted by Cambodia, with two local athletes making the list, including track-and-field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh and boxer Nguyen Thi Tam.
In the article “World-class athletes to legends: stars to watch at SEA Games” a total of eight athletes who are expected to shine at the regional games were named.
Track-and-field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh represents an outstanding Vietnamese athlete who is competing at the games. The 27-year-old runner won a total of three Games golds on home soil last time, in the 1500m, 5000m, and 3000m steeplechase.
She will defend all three this time across two grueling days, AFP Sport wrote.
Local boxer Nguyen Thi Tam, who competed in the flyweight bagged silver at the recent Women's World Boxing Championships, was also mentioned. She also won golds at the last two SEA Games.
Tam is currently eyeing qualification for the Paris Olympics having previously fought at Tokyo 2020, according to French website.
The six other athletes from the Southeast Asian region also listed include Puripol Boonson of Thailand in the track-and-field, Vanessa Sarno of the Philippines in weightlifting, Carlos Yulo of the Philippines in gymnastics, Shanti Pereira of Singapore in sprinting, Ernest John Obiena of the Philippines in the pole vault, and Efren Reyes of the Philippines in snooker.
SEA Games 32 is set to take place from May 5 to May 17 in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh and four other localities of Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, and Kep.
The Vietnamese sporting delegation to SEA Games 32 comprises of 1,003 members, including 702 athletes competing across 30 sports.
They are aiming to win between 90 to 120 gold medals to finish among the top three nations.
