Two GMs to compete at FIDE World Rapid, Blitz Team Championship
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Grandmasters Le Quang Liem and Le Tuan Minh are set to compete at the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship, scheduled to take place in the United Kingdom from June 11 to 15.
According to the official lineup, GM Le Quang Liem will represent the Freedom team, which holds the fourth-highest average Elo rating among all participating squads. Liem, a key member of the team, enters the tournament with a rapid chess Elo rating of 2,645.
Meanwhile, GM Le Tuan Minh will play for the Theme International Trading team, which has an average Elo rating of 2,514. Minh himself currently holds a rapid Elo of 2,503.
The rapid chess competition will be played over 12 rounds in a Swiss-system format, and the player with the highest overall score will be crowned the champion.
In contrast, the blitz portion of the tournament will begin with a round-robin Pool Stage. The top 16 teams from this stage will move on to the playoffs.
The championship features a total prize pool of EUR500,000, with EUR310,000 allocated for the rapid event and EUR190,000 set aside for the blitz event.
