Track and field athlete books spot at Tokyo Olympics
VOV.VN - The World Athletics has announced that Vietnamese athlete Quach Thi Lan has successfully qualified for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics which are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8.
Lan will be the only Vietnamese track and field athlete to compete at the international event through a wildcard entry by the Vietnam Athletics Federation.
She is set to compete in the Olympics for the first time in her career and will participate in the women’s 400m hurdles.
Lan was originally born in the central province of Thanh Hoa and is from the Muong ethnic group. Standing at 1.75m tall and with notably long legs, she is considered to be a rarity among the Vietnamese athletics team.
During the past two versions of the Olympics, Vietnamese track and field athletes have been able to directly qualify for the event. While the 2016 Rio Olympics saw Nguyen Thanh Ngung compete in walking and Nguyen Thi Huyen in the 400m hurdles.
With one athlete competing in track and field, the Vietnamese delegation has a total of 16 places for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
