Tokyo 2020 Olympics update: Veteran marksman Xuan Vinh ousted
VOV.VN - Vietnamese marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh has failed to defend his Rio 2016 championship title in the men’s 10m air pistol after being outclassed in the qualifying round in Tokyo on July 24.
Vinh, one of Vietnam’s hopefuls at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics, only scored a total of 573 points after 60 shots, ranking 22nd and was disqualified for the round 1/8.
In Taekwondo, artist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen missed a chance to cruise into a game for a bronze medal after a 1-22 loss to Abishag Semberg of Israel.
The Asian defending champion earlier triumphed over Yvette Yong of Canada in the 49kg weight category in the morning.
Another two Vietnamese hopefuls, gymnasts Le Thanh Tung and Dinh Phuong Thanh were knocked out in the qualifying round.
In Rowing, duo Luong Thi Bao/Dinh Thi Hao finished fourth in Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls, qualified for Repechage to win a ticket to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, boxer Nguyen Van Duong overwhelmed Aliyev Tayfur of Azerbaijan 3-2 in the under 57kg weight category to storm into round 1/16.
Duong is scheduled to clash against Erdenebat Tsendbaatar of Mongolia, who was a quarter-finalist at the Rio 2016 Olympics and won the 2019 and 2021 Asian Championships.
