Thuy Linh finishes runner-up at Canada Open 2025, misses Super 300 title

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s top female badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh fell short of the Canada Open 2025 title after losing to Manami Suizu of Japan (world No. 35) in the women’s singles final on July 7.

Despite being seeded No. 2 and holding a favorable head-to-head record against Suizu (2 wins, 1 draw), Thuy Linh struggled with unforced errors and failed to gain momentum. In both sets, she managed to keep up in the early stages but was outplayed as the match progressed, eventually losing in just 48 minutes   with a score of 0-2 (12-21, 14-21).

This marks Thuy Linh's third runner-up finish at a Super 300 tournament, following two second-place results at the German Open in 2024 and 2025. She had an impressive run to the final in Canada, winning four consecutive matches before falling short in the title match.

Although she couldn’t claim her first Super 300 title, the Vietnamese player earned 5,950 world ranking points and US$9,120 in prize money.

Thuy Linh is expected to compete next at the China Open 2025, a Super 1000 event scheduled for July 22–27 in Changzhou, China. This tournament presents a greater challenge and an opportunity for her to bounce back and prove herself against top-tier opponents.
