Thuy Linh bows out of Badminton Asian Championship

VOV.VN - Talented Vietnamese player Nguyen Thuy Linh suffered elimination from the Badminton Asian Championship 2023 after being defeated by a Chinese rival in the second-round match held at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall in Dubai in the UAE on April 27.

Linh, world No. 35, was unable to spring a surprise in the match against No. 5 He Bingjiao of China as she was beaten 16-21 and 17-21 in the women's singles.

This marks the fifth time that Linh has taken on her powerful rival, suffering the same result each time. Last year saw her exit the tournament in the first round.

This year the nation has sent eight athletes to the competition but, apart from Linh, all were eliminated in the first round of matches.

Of them, Nguyen Hai Dang lost 21-13 and 21-17 to No. 5 seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the men's singles, whilst pair Pham Van Hai and Than Van Anh were defeated 21-11 and 21-6 by Thai duo Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat in the mixed doubles.

Elsewhere, Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh were beaten 21-13 and 21-9 by Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei.

After the tournament, the Vietnamese badminton team is scheduled to return home to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia in May.
