Thuy Linh beats Danish opponent, enters China Masters quarter-finals

VOV.VN - After beating three-time world champion Martin Carolina (Spain) on November 22, Nguyen Thuy Linh (Vietnam) continued to stun Hojmark Kjaersfeldt (Denmark) on November 23 to enter the quarter-finals of the ongoing China Masters 2023 in Shengzhen.

The shocking 2-1 win over Caroline (world No.5) helped Linh (world No.22) gain more confidence in her clash with Kjaersfeldt (world No.20).

Kjaersfeldt flexed her muscle in the minutes before Linh rose up, equalizing the score and taking the 22-20 lead in the end in the first set.

The second set saw the Vietnamese player perform better, scoring points thanks to push shots. Despite her efforts, Kjaersfeldt could not prevent Linh from scoring, and the Vietnamese girl then jeopardized her opponent’s hope to enter the quarters-finals in the second set ending up with a score of 21-12.

The 2-0 win sent Linh to the quarter-finals where she is scheduled to take on Korean player Kim Ga-eun (world No.15).

The 2023 China Masters is currently taking place in Shenzhen from November 21 to 25 as part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 750.

This tournament offers the Vietnamese player an opportunity to compete with the world’s top players such as An Se Young, Akane Yamaguchi, and Chen Yu Fei.

In the Race to Paris rankings, Thuy Linh still ranks 16th, more than 3,000 points compared to follower Kristy Gilmour (Finland). She is expected to get a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics next summer.
