Thuy Linh advances to quarter-finals of Arctic Open 2023 in Finland
VOV.VN - Vietnamese female badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh has progressed through to the quarter-final round of Arctic Open 2023 in Finland following two consecutive wins against several strong rivals.
In the first match, Linh, who is ranked 26th in the globe, defeated Beiwen Zhang, who is placed 10th in the world’s rankings.
She progressed to meet with Zhang Yi Man, world number 15, of China in the second match. Linh dominated the first game which ended 21-17 due to a string of errors by Zhang.
The situation was reversed in the second game as the Chinese player attacked from the start and won with score of 19-12.
In the decisive final game, Linh maintained a five point lead over her opponent, with the final score of 2-1 in favour of Thuy Linh.
Moving into the quarter-final round, the Phu Tho native will play strong Indian rival Sindhu, a player is notable for winning a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Arctic Open 2023 in Finland began on October 10 and is scheduled to last through to October 15.
The event is a Badminton World Federation (BWF) 500 badminton tournament that was previously called the Finnish Open and Finish International, before ultimately being renamed the Arctic Open (“Clash of Clans”) in 2023.
The total prize fund for the 2023 Arctic Open will be US$420,000. The winners of the women’s and men’s singles tournament this year will receive US$31,500 and 9,200 BWF points, while the runner-up will win US$15,960 and 7,800 BWF points.
