Thailand U23 edge Vietnam U23 1-0 at CFA Team China 2026
VOV.VN -Thailand U23 beat Vietnam U23 1-0 in their second match at CFA Team China 2026 in Xi’an, China, on March 28, with head coach Thawatchai Damrong saying his side should have scored more.
The match was decided early, with Thanakrit Chotimueangpak scoring the only goal in the opening minute after a defensive error.
Thailand remained in control for most of the match and created several clear chances but could not add a second goal due to poor finishing.
Speaking after the match, Thawatchai Damrong described it as a good game against a strong opponent and praised his players for staying focused under pressure. However, he said his side created many chances but scored only once. He also noted that the fast tempo in the first half affected ball control in some situations.
The Thai coach added that squad rotation was used to manage fitness and avoid injuries amid a tight schedule, with the team now preparing for their next match against DPR Korea U23.
For Vietnam U23, head coach Dinh Hong Vinh said the tournament serves as an opportunity to assess the squad. The current lineup is largely made up of players born in 2005 or later, as part of a long-term plan by the Vietnam Football Federation towards the 2026 Asian Games.
The narrow defeat to Thailand provided a useful test for the young squad in adapting to international competition. Despite the loss, the team showed some positives in effort and adaptation to the pace of the game.
After drawing 1-1 with DPR Korea U23 and losing 0-1 to Thailand U23, Vietnam will face hosts China U23 on March 31 in their final match of the tournament.
