Striker Xuan Son discharged from hospital for Tet celebration
VOV.VN - Striker Nguyen Xuan Son (Rafaelson) has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing treatment for an injury sustained during the 2024 ASEAN Cup earlier this year.
The naturalized striker immediately travelled to Nam Dinh province to reunite with his family for the coming Lunar New Year holiday (Tet). He will return to the hospital to continue the next critical stages of his recovery.
Before welcoming Son home, his wife had tidied up and decorated their house together with a Lunar New Year theme. Although he has been playing in Vietnam for five years, this is his first Tet celebration as a Vietnamese citizen.
Good news for the striker!. He ranked among the top 10 most influential figures on social media in December 2024, according to BuzzMetrics, the leading social network and e-commerce data research company in Vietnam and the region. Son secured fourth place on the list, thanks to his brilliant performance at the 2024 AFF Cup.
The striker successfully underwent surgery on January 6 evening at Vinmec Hospital in Hanoi after sustaining a serious injury during the 2024 ASEAN Cup final between Vietnam and Thailand.
Ultrasound and X-ray results revealed that the injury was more serious than initially diagnosed. The naturalized striker suffered a complex closed fracture of the middle third of both shin bones, with large displaced fragments.
During the 90 minute long surgery, doctors utilized a minimally invasive intramedullary nailing technique to fix the bones, minimizing soft tissue damage and ensuring a quicker recovery.
Dr. Ho Ngoc Minh at Vinmec Times City Hospital says whether he returns to the field largely depends on the recovery process that requires careful attention and cannot be rushed. The estimated recovery time of 6-9 months for returning to high-intensity training and official matches is crucial to ensure he fully heals and avoids the risk of re-injury.
