Six Vietnamese athletes to compete at 2025 Asian Aquatics Championships
VOV.VN - Six Vietnamese athletes departed for India on September 25 to compete in the 11th Asian Aquatics Championships, set to open three days later.

Among them is Nguyen Quang Thuan, younger brother of swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, making his debut at the continental event. In July, Thuan marked notable progress by finishing second in the men’s 400m individual medley qualifiers at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, positioning him as a strong medal contender for Vietnam.
Historically, Vietnam’s men’s swimming team has yet to secure a medal at the Asian Aquatics Championships. The nation’s best achievements so far have come from female swimmer Anh Vien, who earned a gold in the women’s 400m individual medley and three bronze medals in the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 200m individual medley at the 2016 tournament in Tokyo. She also won one silver and one bronze at the 2012 edition.
This year’s edition, scheduled from September 28 to October 2, carries special significance as Asia Aquatics returns to host the event after a nine-year hiatus. The last tournament was held in Tokyo, Japan, in 2016.
