Seven Vietnamese players selected in ASEAN Cup 2024 best XI lineup

VOV.VN - The organizers of the ASEAN Cup 2024 have recently announced the best XI of the tournament, with seven Vietnamese players selected in the dream team.

The goalkeeper position goes to Nguyen Dinh Trieu, who secured the starting spot ahead of Nguyen Filip in the ASEAN Cup 2024.

After only playing two matches in the group stage, Dinh Trieu was picked by coach Kim Sang-sik to play all four matches in the knockout rounds. He made four crucial saves during the two-legged final and played a key role in Vietnam’s championship victory.

The defense consists of four standout players - Bui Tien Dung (Vietnam), Nicolas Mickelson (Thailand), Bui Hoang Viet Anh (Vietnam), and Pansa Hemviboon (Thailand).

Among them, Bui Tien Dung was the reliable stopper for the Vietnam national team. The center-back from Viettel FC was always present in critical situations, helping his teammates successfully avert danger.

However, the inclusion of Bui Hoang Viet Anh might be the most controversial. The center-back only played in one match out of eight in ASEAN Cup 2024, while players like Duy Manh or Thanh Chung, who had standout performances, were left out of this list.

In addition, Pansa Hemviboon surprisingly appears in the defensive best XI. The 34-year-old played well throughout the journey to the final for Thailand, but he became a “villain” by scoring an own goal in the second-leg final.

In midfield, the four chosen players are Nguyen Quang Hai (Vietnam), Nguyen Hai Long (Vietnam), Kyoga Nakamura (Singapore), and Sandro Reyes (Philippines).

Kyoga Nakamura and Sandro Reyes were the brightest stars for Singapore and the Philippines. However, compared to Suphanat Mueanta Thailand, who scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists, they seemed less impressive.

In attack, Nguyen Xuan Son (Vietnam) and Nguyen Tien Linh (Vietnam) both fully deserve their places in the dream team. Xuan Son won the top scorer and best player awards, while Tien Linh contributed 4 goals and 2 assists for Vietnam.

The best XI of the ASEAN Cup 2024, as presented by the organizers, is merely for reference, as it is the result of fan voting, not experts or media professionals.
