A ceremony to see off the Vietnamese sporting delegation to the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games took place in Ho Chi Minh City on November 21.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam, praised the proactive and professional preparations made by training units in HCM City. He affirmed that the city continues to be a major contributor of core athletes in key disciplines, particularly Olympic sports. He expressed confidence that the southern region will maintain its role as a reliable source of achivements, making an important contribution to Vietnam’s goal of remaining among the top nations at SEA Games 33.

SEA Games 33 will take place in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla from December 9 to 20, featuring 55 sports. It is expected to welcome more than 12,500 athletes from across ASEAN.

The southern Vietnam contingent will contribute 59 coaches and 258 athletes, competing in 37 of the 45 sports registered by the Vietnamese delegation, reaffirming its role as a principal force in the medal race.

At SEA Games 32, athletes from the southern region competed in 40 out of 45 sports and contributed nearly 60 of Vietnam’s 132 gold medals. Of these, HCM City alone fielded 59 coaches and 258 athletes, securing 31 gold medals.
