Send-off ceremony held for local athletes ahead of Asian Para Games in China

VOV.VN - A ceremony to send off the Vietnamese sporting delegation to the fourth Asian Para Games was held on October 10 in the central city of Da Nang.

Led by Nguyen Hong Minh, deputy general director of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s Vietnam Sports Administration, the delegation consists of 71 members, including 48 athletes.

The regional competition will see the athletes compete in seven sports, namely athletics, swimming, powerlifting, chess, table tennis, badminton, and taekwondo.

Vietnam is aiming to win three to four gold medals, with many athletes hoping to make it through the qualifying round and participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong praised outstanding achievements recorded by Vietnamese athletes with disabilities over the years.

He added that the competition is also a chance to learn from and enhance solidarity with other Asian countries.

The Asian Para Games follows the Asian Games (ASIAD) and is held every four years. This year’s event will be organised in Hangzhou of China from October 14 to 29.
