SEA Games 33: Vietnam wins 13 more golds, maintains third position
VOV.VN - Vietnamese athletes claimed an additional 13 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand on December 19, maintaining third position on the medal table.
Shooting was a highlight as Ha Minh Thanh won gold in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol, setting a new SEA Games record with 30 points after 8 shots.
Phung Viet Dung, Nguyen Thanh Nam, and Nguyen Van Quan captured gold in the men’s 50m rifle three positions team, while Ha Minh Thanh, Tran Cong Hieu, and Pham Quang Huy won gold in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol team.
Another gold hat-trick came in wrestling, with Pham Nhu Duy (men’s 57kg freestyle), Nguyen Huu Dinh (men’s 65kg freestyle), and Can Tat Du (men’s 74kg freestyle) each taking top honours.
Chess contributed two more golds, with Le Tuan Minh and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son in men’s rapid pair, and Pham Le Thao Nguyen and Vo Thi Kim Phung in women’s rapid pair.
Vietnam also triumphed in esports (men’s team), aerobic group, fencing (men’s team sabre), traditional rowing (women’s 10-person 500m), and taekwondo (women’s 60kg).
After December 19, Vietnam’s total stood at 86 golds, 79 silvers, and 110 bronzes, securing third place overall. Indonesia finished second with 91 golds, 111 silvers, and 128 bronzes, while hosts Thailand dominated with 232 golds, breaking the previous SEA Games record of 205 held by Vietnam at SEA Games 31.
Notably, Malaysia overtook Singapore to claim fourth place, with 56 golds, 57 silvers, and 116 bronzes.
The SEA Games 33 closing ceremony is scheduled for 6:00 PM on December 20 at Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium.
