FIFA honours Thuy Trang in Vietnam’s SEA Games futsal victory
VOV.VN - The world’s governing football body FIFA has paid tribute to Vietnamese player Thuy Trang following Vietnam’s historic gold-medal triumph in women’s futsal at the 33rd SEA Games.
On its official Women’s World Cup fan page, FIFA recently posted a photo of Thuy Trang with the caption, “A feat no one else has achieved,” highlighting her unique accomplishment. The post, which was made visible exclusively to audiences in Vietnam, quickly drew thousands of interactions.
Earlier, FIFA’s fanpage also shared a congratulatory image for the Vietnam women’s team after their historic victory over Indonesia.
Thuy Trang is the only female footballer to have won gold medals at the SEA Games in both 11-a-side football and futsal. At 37, she continues to impress on the futsal court with her composure, technical skill, and undiminished competitive spirit.
She scored the final goal in Vietnam’s emphatic 5–0 win over Indonesia in the SEA Games final, sealing the country’s first-ever gold medal in women’s futsal.
Trang is the reigning recipient of the Vietnam Women’s Golden Ball. On August 10, 2023, she announced her departure from the national women’s football team after not featuring at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a circumstance that also led to her absence from the 2023 Asian Games squad.
Refusing to let her international career end there, Trang reignited her national-team ambitions by switching to futsal. In November 2024, she played a key role in helping Vietnam claim the Southeast Asian women’s futsal championship. Alongside her futsal commitments, she has continued to represent Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC in domestic competitions.
