SEA Games 31: Rowing, Pencat Silat bring home 3 golds on May 11
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese rowing team clinched their first gold medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) in women’s quadruple sculls which took place on the morning of May 11.
Pham Thi Hue, Dinh Thi Hai, Ho Thi Ly, and Pham Thi Thao clocked in at seven minutes and 13 seconds to finish first in the Thuy Nguyen rowing centre in Hai Phong city.
The silver medal went to the Indonesian team with a time of seven minutes and 23.61 seconds, while the bronze medal was awarded to the Philippines team.
Their teammates Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, Le Thi Hien, Ha Thi Vui and Du Thi Bong later also took a gold in the women’s quadruple sculls (W4x).
Meanwhile, Pen Cat Silat artists Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Nguyen Thi Huyen and Vuong Thi Binh secured a gold medal in the team’s Tunggal (demonstration).
As of 12hrs (May 11), Vietnam surpassed Malaysia, staying atop the medal tally with 8 golds.
SEA Games 31, which is running with the theme of “For a Stronger South East Asia”, is being held in Hanoi and 11 neighbouring localities from May 12 to May 23.
